CRITERIA FOR ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES |

GENERAL INFORMATION | The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health and the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine have agreed to the following policies and eligibility requirements for the 2025 Medicine Subspecialty Match. Please note that individual programs may have specific criteria that will be used to review applications. Applicants are responsible for reviewing program-specific criteria, as well as the criteria listed below, to ensure they meet all requirements and eligibility criteria. Failure to meet or provide proof of any of the stated requirements or documents may result in an applicant’s file not being reviewed or ranked.
ACLS Prior to the commencement of training, successful applicants must provide proof of ACLS certification that is current as of July 1, 2025. The ACLS Provider course must be certified by the American Heart Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. ACLS certification that is not endorsed by these organizations, or is completed entirely through an online course, will not be accepted. Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with obtaining ACLS certification. |
LICENSING BODY | College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan
Successful applicants must be eligible for and maintain registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan for an educational register license and must maintain eligibility for an educational register license throughout their entire training program. Credentialing Successful applicants must be eligible for and maintain privileges within the Saskatchewan Health Authority as determined by its credentialing process. |

Off cycle residents: Residents with completion dates after December 31, 2025, should apply to the 2026 MSM match. |

MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS | MCCQE Part I
Applicants must satisfy CPSS requirements for educational licensure, including relevant examinations in effect at the time of application. If applicants have completed residency training in the USA, they may be exempted from the MCCQE1 requirement if they have passed the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3. Any exemptions will be determined by CPSS. Medical Council of Canada (MCC) examination data and documents are only accepted as transfers from physiciansapply.ca. Instructions on how to transfer documents from physiciansapply.ca to your CaRMS account can be found here. |
RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS | Applicants must declare any Return of Service obligations on their application and may be disqualified if their provincial obligations preclude subspecialty training. Applicants are required to provide written verification from their funding agency confirming they have received approval from the funding agency to apply to the MSM match. |
MEDICAL EDUCATION | Applicants must be enrolled in an RCPSC accredited Core Internal Medicine residency program in a Canadian medical school or an ACGME accredited Core Internal Medicine residency program in a US medical school. |
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION | RCPSC Assessment of Training Letter: Applicants who have completed their Internal Medicine or Psychiatry residency training in an ACGME accredited training program in the United States must apply to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for an assessment of training to ensure that their training meets the Canadian training requirements. When the applicant’s residency training has been assessed, the Royal College will make a “ruling” (decision) on examination eligibility and a letter outlining eligibility and/or conditions to attain eligibility will be sent to the applicant.
The assessment of training (ruling) letter is required for the application to be eligible for ranking and MUST be submitted prior to the program rank order deadline. |

MEDICAL EDUCATION | Proof of MD Degree and Medical School Transcripts: IMGs must be graduates of an acceptable medical school on the World Directory of Medical Schools.
A copy of medical school transcripts and medical degree/diploma must be submitted. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a notarized translation. |
