CRITERIA APPLICABLE TO ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES |

GENERAL INFORMATION | As an outcome of Competence by Design (CBD) implementation in general Pediatrics training programs, residents starting Pediatrics training in 2021 will need to complete all stages of training prior to starting subspecialty training, except for Quebec.
To accommodate this change, there will be two consecutive SSRM matches in this year’s match cycle:

LICENSING BODY | All applicants must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CSSRM) on the educational register. CSSRM categories of registration and eligibility criteria for licensure after residency can be reviewed at the following website. | ||||||||||||
SOURCE OF FUNDING | Funding for Residency positions is provided by Manitoba Health | ||||||||||||
TRAINING LEVEL ELIGIBILITY | All Pediatrics residents in ACGME-accredited Pediatrics programs who are interested in applying for a Pediatrics subspecialty program in Canada will need to have their training assessed by the RCPSC in comparison to Canadian training.

RESTRICTIONS | Applicants who are off cycle by more than six months will be considered for the subsequent match.
Pediatric residents who will be completing their PGY4 training after December 31, 2024, are eligible to apply to the 2025 SSRM match. Visa-sponsored trainees must apply for subspecialty training outside of the Spring Subspecialty Residency Match. CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS |
Notarized/certified photocopied proof of citizenship must be provided. Photocopies are accepted but citizenship documents other than what is listed above are not accepted. CaRMS is partnering with third-party organizations to automate the verification of citizenship/legal status required by postgraduate offices for entry into residency. Third-party verification simplifies the process for applicants and programs. All applicants who do not receive third-party citizenship verification will be required to upload and assign an acceptable proof of citizenship document. Please see additional information here. |
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR CANADIAN MEDICAL GRADUATESA Canadian Medical Graduate (CMG) or U.S. Allopathic Medical Graduate (USMG) is an individual who received their medical degree from a medical school accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). |

PROOF OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY | English is the language of study at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. All applicants whose first language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency to CaRMS by the file review opening date.

Language Assessment Document Accepted: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) – General
CMG/USMG If you graduated from an English medical school in Canada or the United States, you are exempt from providing proof of language proficiency. Candidates who attended medical school in Canada or the United States where the language of instruction or the primary language of patient care was not English, must fulfill the English Language Proficiency requirements. Candidates are exempted from English language proficiency testing under the following circumstances:

MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS | Examination: MCCQE Part I
The province will accept the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and Step 2 in place of the MCCQE Part I for United States Medical Graduates. |
RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS | All applicants with a return of service agreement must attach a copy of that agreement to their applications. |

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATESAn International Medical Graduate (IMG) is an individual who received their medical degree from a medical school that listed with the World Directory of Medical Schools (World Directory) published by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). A U.S. Osteopathic Medical Graduate (USMG- Osteo) is an individual who received their medical degree from an accredited Osteopathic medical school. |

Pre-Residency Orientation Programs
To help ensure a smooth transition to residency, all IMG candidates accepted to residency programs are required to complete the mandatory two-week orientation program in June 2024. Further information about the mandatory IMG Orientation can be found on the University of Manitoba, International Medical Graduates-Orientation webpage. All candidates accepted to all residency programs must attend the mandatory PGME orientation day. |
