Information concernant le cycle de jumelage de 2025

Les critères d’admissibilité provinciaux pour la Nouvelle-Écosse, le Nouveau-Brunswick et l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard sont fournis par le Collège des Médecins et chirurgiens de la Nouvelle-Écosse, le Collège des médecins et chirurgiens du Nouveau-Brunswick et le Collège des médecins et chirurgiens de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard et sont seulement disponible en anglais (sauf le CMCNB qui offre les critères d’admissibilité en français).

Veuillez noter que les critères sur cette page sont ceux du jumelage de 2024. Les critères d’admissibilité provinciaux de 2025 mis à jour seront affichés sur cette page dans les prochains mois, une fois qu’ils auront été révisés par la province.

CRITERIA FOR ALL MEDICAL GRADUATES

GENERAL INFORMATION Successful applicants must hold a CCFP designation at the time Emergency Medicine training commences.

You must currently be in a Family Medicine Residency program OR be registered to write the College of Family Physicians Canada exam (CCFP) to be considered.  The Care of the Elderly program will also consider Family Physicians with the CCFP designation who are interested in re-entering training from practice.

LICENSING BODY All applicants must be eligible to register for an educational license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

TRAINING LEVEL ELIGIBILITY Subspecialty: Enhanced skills

  • Training level: Licensed physicians, with CCFP designation
  • Eligibility details: Care of the Elderly will be accepting applicants who are already in practice.

Subspecialty: Enhanced skills

  • Training level: Current Canadian Family Medicine training​
  • Eligibility details: PGY2 residents are eligible
RESTRICTIONS Eligibility of Visa-Sponsored Residents

Visa-sponsored residents are not eligible to apply for positions through the Family Medicine/Enhanced Skills subspecialty match. Instead, visa-sponsored trainees should contact the PGY4 Subspecialty Training Program to inquire about the application process for sponsored residents.

COVID-19 Immunization

COVID-19 vaccination is currently required for all healthcare workers in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI by public health order. As long as that order remains in effect, candidates who electively choose not to be vaccinated against COVID-19 are not eligible to work, and therefore, are ineligible for training.

  • Requirement: Mandatory
  • Date/milestone assessment submission required: File review opening

RETURN OF SERVICE (ROS) REQUIREMENTS Any candidate who has an undischarged Return of Service (ROS) must disclose such obligations at time of application.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES

MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA EXAMS Examination: MCCQE Part I

  • Requirement: Mandatory with exceptions
  • Date/milestone assessment submission required: File review opening

The province will accept the following in place of the MCCQE Part I:

  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1 and 2; or
  • National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Parts I, II and III; or
  • Federation Licensing Examination (Flex) Components 1 and 2; or
  • Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Levels 1 and 2.

MEDICAL EDUCATION Proof of MD Degree or DO Degree (Osteopathic medicine)

Graduates of Non-LCME or CACMS-Accredited Medical Schools (GNLCAMS) must be a graduate of an acceptable medical school or a graduate of a US school of Osteopathic Medicine and must meet provincial licensing eligibility in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

A copy of medical/osteopathy school marks/transcripts and medical degree/diploma must be submitted. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a notarized translation.
